The wall around your tub and built-in shower can be covered with tile, fiberglass or any other waterproof material. Whatever you cover it with, you need some way to seal the line between the tub and the wall and also the corners between the walls. Caulk is the proper method of doing this. See your home improvement store for the right kind of caulk for your particular needs.
Instructions
- 1
Dip your scrub brush in bleach and scrub the lines along the rim of the tub, getting it free of all debris. Let it dry completely.
2Put the caulk tube in the caulk gun. Cut the end of the tube at a diagonal angle, making a hole about inch wide. Push a long nail down into the hole to break open the internal seal and release the caulk.
3Set the tip of the tube against one end of the first line between the tub and the wall. Position the caulk gun at a 45-degree angle to the line. Compress the trigger, pushing the caulk out the tip.
4Pull the gun slowly back along the line, continuing to compress the trigger, expelling a smooth, straight bead of caulk all the way along the line. Dont stop until you get to the end of the line.
5Wet your thumb and press it lightly along the line, smoothing out the wet caulk and sealing it against the surface. Repeat for each line between the tub and the tiles, and up the vertical corners between the shower walls.
6Let the caulk set for 24 hours.
