How to Install a Bathroom Vanity Fixture With No Wall Stud

Most walls have studs in them, which you should use for anchoring fixtures such as a bathroom vanity to the wall. If the bathroom wall where you are installing a new vanity does not have studs, you may still securely attach the vanity to the wall using wall anchors. While a variety of wall anchors exists, The Home Depot recommends using either molly bolts or wall anchors to attach heavy objects such as a vanity to the wall.

Instructions

Measure the new vanity and mark on the wall where you wish to place the vanity assembly. Take into account the stubout drainpipes location of the in the wall, as well as the water supply valves and any nearby doors or pathways in the bathroom.

Scrape away loose paint or pieces of the wall material from the installation site using a putty knife. Loose debris affects anchoring the vanity to the wall, making it unstable. Spread wall patch compound into any damaged areas and allow the patch to completely dry.

Put the vanity in place, lining it up with the marked measurements on the wall. Put a level on the vanitys top and drive wood shims under the different sides until it is level, from both side-to-side and front-to-back.

Drill pilot holes through the wood anchor strip on the back of the inside of the vanity and into the wall. Insert the wall anchors into the pilot holes, and then drive a screw into each of the anchors until the screw head sits flush with the vanitys anchor strip.
