How to Replace a Moen Shower Faucet With AquaSource

Homeowners replace shower faucets for a variety of reasons. Often we're seeking improved water pressure, or relief from rust- or calcium-clogged fixtures, or a facelift for the existing shower. No matter why you have decided to opt for a new AquaSource shower faucet, keep in mind that replacing the fixture yourself is a low-cost chore that you can accomplish quickly. Showerheads are fairly standard as far as plumbing fixture connections go, so swapping out a Moen faucet for an AquaSource model shouldnt be too difficult.

Instructions

Cover the base of the Moen faucet with a thick cloth rag and unscrew the connected head by clamping a wrench over the rag. The rag will protect the Moen faucet and the piping from being scratched by the wrenching motion. Unscrew the head in a counterclockwise motion until the faucet is disconnected from the wall.

Inspect the piping to ensure that you did not strip or damage it as you unscrewed the old shower faucet. Insert a new washer into the pipe to replace the old one. Wrap plumbers tape around the pipe in a clockwise motion over the connection threading until you reach the opening of the pipe.

Screw the AquaSource shower faucet onto the pipe by hand and turn on the water pressure. If the new shower faucet leaks, turn off the water again and gently tighten the AquaSource faucet using the wrench and protective rag method. The faucet has been installed correctly once the fixture can process water without leaks.
