How to Cut Sistine Shower Panels

Sistine shower panels are stone panels that sit flush against a prepared wall to create the actual walls of a shower install. By using the panels, you can quickly install a shower enclosure without the trouble of installing individual tiles to the walls. Before placement onto your walls though, youll need to cut the panels to create the necessary spaces for fixtures or shower shelves. To avoid leaking, precision is necessary for the cuts. With a jigsaw and a drill, creating that precision is possible, as long as you follow the proper cutting process.

Instructions

    1

Lay the panel onto a flat surface with the cutout area clear of anything beneath it. Mark the cutout area that you wish to create onto the front of the shower panel with a pencil. Use a straightedge to keep your marks straight across the panel surface.

    2

Drill a hole through the inside corners of your marked cutout area. Position the drill bit so that the edge of the drilled hole rests on the edge of the marked lines of the cutout.

    3

Place strips of masking tape over the cutlines to prevent the panel from chipping as you cut through them.

    4

Slide the blade of a jigsaw through one of the drilled holes in the panel. Use as fine-toothed a blade as you can find, to create the smoothest cut possible. Align the blade with one of the cutlines extending from the drilled hole. Start the saw and push the blade along the line, cutting through the panel until you reach the next hole.

    5

Use the new hole to realign the blade to cut down the next cutline along the drawn cutout area. Start the saw and cut along that line as well, repeating the realignment process at each succeeding hole until you reach the starting point and complete the cutout.

    6

Remove the masking tape. Sand the edges of the cutout with medium grit sandpaper, if necessary, to straighten the cuts.
