How to Determine a Regular or Elongated Toilet Seat

Toilet seats can be as individual as the people who use them. They come in a variety of styles and materials. They may be soft and cushy, electrically heated or cold and utilitarian. Regardless of the other available options, toilet seats come in two basic forms: round and elongated. The shape of the seat depends on the shape of the toilet.

Toilet seats come in standard sizes based on their shapes. The shape of your toilet seat should match the shape of the toilet bowl. The most common toilet bowl shape is round. But oval toilet bowls, sometimes referred to as elongated toilet bowls, have gained popularity for residential use, according to the Overstock website.

You can find both round and elongated toilet seats in a variety of materials. Comfort and durability are primary considerations for the material of your toilet seat. If you have a large family or small children, you may wish to choose a toilet seat that is constructed of high-impact plastic or wood. If comfort is more important to you, a cushioned toilet seat may be more appropriate.

Round and elongated toilet seats are both available with integral nut and bolt mountings or with conventional nut and bolt mounting. Your toilet bowl comes with standard mounting holes into which the toilet seat mounting bolts fit. Integral nut and bolt mounts may be more visually appealing, while conventional nut and bolt mounts may be easier when it comes time to replace your toilet seat.

Regardless of whether your toilet bowl shape is round or elongated, your toilet seat needs to complement the decor of your bathroom. If your bathroom is ultra modern, your toilet seat should be sleek and cool. If your bathroom is fun and comfy, choose a design that reflects your bathroom's theme.
